You'll find every level of education in the Annapolis Valley, from pre-primary to postgraduate. Canada has the highest proportion of college graduates among OECD countries. Within Canada, the Atlantic provinces have the highest proportion of college graduates aged 25 to 64.

We value education. Our educational resources reflect that.

Schools

Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education

The Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education (AVRCE) delivers public education to students who live in the Annapolis Valley. The AVRCE schools directory page offers a catchment search and a school map to help you find the school that's right for your family.

Independent/private schools

Independent or private schools offer specialist educations. There are three in the Valley:

  • The Booker School, Port Williams, offers pre-kindergarten to grade 8. The school is independent, non-profit, and non-denominational. It is working toward gaining full accreditation from the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.
  • Kings-Edgehill School, Windsor, is a coeducational boarding and day school for grades 6 through 12.
  • Landmark East, Wolfville, is Canada's only day and boarding school for students who have learning differences.
  • Ecole Rose-des-Vents, Greenwood, is a Francophone school operated by the Conseil scholaire acadien provincial.

Nova Scotia Community College

Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) provides Nova Scotians with inclusive and flexible access to education and specialized training. NSCC operates 14 campuses throughout Nova Scotia. Two of them are in the Annapolis Valley at three sites:

  • Annapolis Valley Campus, Middleton, provides a range of programs. It is home to the Applied Research Group and Pilikan House, a living lab and demonstration site for energy efficiency and sustainable design.
  • The Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS), Lawrencetown, is Canada's largest geomatics-focused learning environment. COGS has an international reputation for offering top-notch education in the fields of surveying, geographic information systems (GIS), land-use planning, remote sensing and mapping.
  • Kingstec Campus, Kentville, provides a wide range of programs in a bright, modern learning environment. Kingstec Campus has Atlantic Canada's first and only commercial teaching winery facilities.

Acadia University

Acadia University is ranked the #1 undergraduate university in Nova Scotia, with over 200 degree options. Founded in 1838, Acadia is one of the oldest and most respected liberal arts universities in Canada. Its small size—enrolment is about 3,500 students—means that students get lots of individual attention. Acadia and its beautiful campus are an integral part of the classic college town of Wolfville, which overlooks the Annapolis Valley and the Bay of Fundy. Acadia is also home to the renowned K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre and the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens.

We acknowledge that we are in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People.  This territory is covered by the "Treaties of Peace and Friendship" which Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725.  The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors of African descent who came before us to this land.
