Nova Scotia has had an enviable track record throughout the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Infection rates have been comparatively low. So have hospitalizations. The provincial government has taken a cautious approach and followed public health guidelines. A high percentage of our population is fully vaccinated.
As a result, this province has experienced much less of an impact than most other places.
Even so, the pandemic is not done with us yet, and we all need to remain alert. We have plenty of resources to help you safely enjoy life in the Annapolis Valley.
COVID-19 resources
The Nova Scotia government explains the steps you can take to stay safe, help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and protect your community.
The phases of the Nova Scotia reopening plan are clearly explained. Each of the 5 phases is based on COVID-19 activity, hospitalizations and vaccination rates. We are currently in phase 5. Public health measures have been eased, and expanded travel into Nova Scotia is supported.
Within the Annapolis Valley, the Valley Regional Enterprise Network has compiled COVID-19 information and resources. Valley REN is the regional economic development organization.
For businesses in Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Business Inc. lists a variety of COVID-19 business resources. In addition to their own programs, they provide links to government and other business resources.
For the national strategy, see the Government of Canada COVID-19 information page.
Vaccination policies
If you're fully vaccinated, life in the Annapolis Valley is fairly normal. Most places of business still ask that you wear a mask indoors and practise physical distancing when you can.
While vaccination remains a personal choice, more than 85% of Nova Scotians aged 12 and over are now fully vaccinated. You will need proof of full vaccination to participate in non-essential events and activities. These include going to restaurants, movies, sports events, theatre performances, social events and the gym. Proof of vaccination isn't required for children 11 and younger.
How do you obtain your proof of vaccination? This information, and more, is provided in the Province's COVID-19 Protocol for Proof of Full Vaccination for Events and Activities (PDF).
