Nova Scotia Works supports
If you are seeking employment or want to upgrade your skills, Nova Scotia Works can help:
- PeopleWorx (Coldbrook, Middleton and Annapolis Royal) can help you focus your job search. You'll gain information and support for new career options, receive direction for a professional résumé, and learn valuable interview tips.
- Annapolis Valley Work Centre, part of PeopleWorx, is a 27-week program that includes on-the-job experience. It provides specialized training in one of four areas. These are woodwork and construction, basic office skills, retail and customer service, and food service.
- Community Inc. (Windsor and Kentville) is a charitable organization that helps persons with disabilities find employment. It also helps employers find qualified employees.
- Valley African Nova Scotia Development Association (VANSDA) offers targeted employment programs at different times of the year. It works in partnership with Federal and Provincial government departments.
Other workforce supports
A wealth of other employment and workforce supports are available across the Annapolis Valley:
- The Aboriginal Peoples Training & Employment Commission (APTEC) is the employment and training division of the Native Council of Nova Scotia. It provides human resource development services to off-reserve Mi'kmaq / Aboriginal Peoples of Nova Scotia.
- The Flower Cart Group provides vocational service to adults who live in Kings County and are considered to have an intellectual disability.
- Greenwood Military Family Resource Centre includes employment opportunities. Its services are for members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families.
- Hants–Kings CBDC is a non-profit, community-based centre. CBDCs provide financial and technical services to entrepreneurs who are creating new businesses or expanding and modernizing existing ones.
- Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) helps immigrants build a future in Nova Scotia. ISANS provides integration services in settlement, employment, language, business and community connections.
- Valley Community Learning Association, Kentville, helps Nova Scotians improve their literacy and math skills. It offers other skills training as well.
- The Valley Connector Program helps newcomers and international and local graduates gain professional networking experience.
- YREACH (Fundy YMCA) is a new and expanded YMCA Program. YREACH provides information, orientation and settlement support to new immigrants, temporary foreign workers, and their families.
