A small-town vibe only minutes from the city. Natural beauty, heritage homes, and four-season recreation including some of the best skiing in Atlantic Canada.

Welcome to West Hants, a municipality on the eastern side of the Annapolis Valley. This largely rural region of about 15,500 residents is situated between Kings County to the northwest and Halifax County to the south.

From Windsor you can be in downtown Halifax in 45 minutes. Halifax Stanfield International Airport is only 40 minutes away. If you're looking to live somewhere affordable, with open spaces but easy access to the city, West Hants is a good place to call home.

Governed by West Hants Regional Municipality, the region offers a laid-back lifestyle in liveable communities.

Living well

Food lovers can find lots to savour in West Hants. A popular cookery school (and inn) specializing in local ingredients is sometimes booked a season ahead. Award-winning local wineries include Bent Ridge, Avondale Sky, and Sainte-Famille Wines. Schoolhouse Brewery adds to the craft beverage offerings.

If dining on the ocean floor appeals, you're only minutes away from Burntcoat Head, which has the highest tides in the world. (OK, technically this is in East Hants, but you can practically see it from here.)

The Station Food Hub helps food entrepreneurs build and maintain successful businesses. One tenant is already exporting her spices internationally.

Need to work off a few of those delicious calories? The West Hants Sports Complex provides an extensive variety of year-round activities. You can enjoy skating and hockey programs, soccer, indoor walking, tradeshows, entertainment and more. The space is accessible and inclusive.

Annual festivals include the popular Hantsport Music Fest in July; the Kempt Shore Acoustic Festival, also in July; and Hants County Exhibition, North America's oldest continuously run agricultural fair, in September.

Come and find out for yourself why West Hants is a place you can live well.

We acknowledge that we are in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People.  This territory is covered by the "Treaties of Peace and Friendship" which Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725.  The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
