Do you dream of making your home in a truly liveable small town?

Welcome to Annapolis Royal. In 2004, this community of about 500 residents was named the most liveable small town in the world. In an international competition sponsored by the United Nations Environment Program, the Town was chosen for the beauty of its landscape and for its attention to local heritage and the environment.

Annapolis Royal is a beautiful waterfront community at the western end of the Annapolis Valley. Originally inhabited by the Mi'kmaq, the area became home to some of North America's earliest European settlers in 1605.

The Town offers a stunning waterfront shopping area with restaurants, superb accommodations, a thriving arts and culture scene, and plenty of outdoor activities. It is also a dynamic community with growing opportunity for business investment.

History and culture

Annapolis Royal is the site of Canada's oldest National Historic Site, Fort Anne. The Town has about 135 registered heritage properties. Its beautiful streetscape has been designated a National Historic District.

Over the years, Annapolis Royal has become a magnet for visual artists, craftspeople, performers and writers. It is also a community where volunteerism thrives. The year-round King's Theatre offers live music, theatre productions, a dance festival and movies.

Historic Gardens

A jewel in the Town is the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens. The 17 acres of these gardens are superb. They showcase gardening methods, designs and materials that represent more than 400 years of local history.

Waterfront amphitheatre

The Oqwa'titek Amphitheatre was finished in 2017 and is a hub of activity. its picturesque waterfront location provides seating for approximately 140 people and has hosted events such as concerts, weddings, and Tai Chi.

We acknowledge that we are in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People.  This territory is covered by the "Treaties of Peace and Friendship" which Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) People first signed with the British Crown in 1725.  The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.
