The Town of Berwick is known as the Apple Capital of Nova Scotia. A thriving rural community of about 2,500 people near the centre of the Annapolis Valley, Berwick is surrounded by the beauty of orchards, farms, vineyards and forest. Berwick's central retail district is bounded by streets with well-kept heritage homes, attractive subdivisions, parks and playgrounds.
Berwick and District School covers primary to Grade 9 and is known for its music and French immersion programs.
The Annapolis Valley Regional Library administration office is in Berwick. The Library's branches serve West Hants, Kings and Annapolis Counties with free public library service.
History and culture
Berwick's first European settlers arrived in 1810. Those who followed were mainly United Empire Loyalists, and many of their descendants still live there. Berwick has preserved the authenticity of its small-town feel but offers many places to shop, dine and be entertained.
Sports and fitness
Sports are a big part of community life in Berwick. The Sports Hall of Fame honours the accomplishments of local athletes going back to the 1930s.
The Kings Mutual Century Centre is a major sport, fitness and community centre. Its facilities include an ice rink, a walking track, a fitness centre and a wellness centre. It is home to the Lions Club, a curling club, and local sports teams such as the Valley Wildcats. Berwick Fitness Centre provides group classes and one-on-one personal training sessions.
The Town's parks and facilities range from the Harvest Moon Trailway to local parks such as Rainforth Park, which has a softball field, a splash pad, a multi-use recreation building, and other amenities. Peter Connell Field is where most Berwick and Area Minor Baseball games are played. Centennial Park and Spicer Park are great picnic areas.

Berwick Electric Commission
Berwick is a leader in green energy. The Town is one of only a handful of Nova Scotia communities that has its own electricity provider. More than 60% of the energy Berwick Electric Commission supplies to its customers comes from renewable sources—hydroelectric and wind. Berwick is a partner in the Alternative Resource Energy Authority (AREA). AREA created and operates a wind farm.
